Nepal Stepping Towards Own Satellite

International Telecommunication Union(ITU) , United Nations body to regulate Radio Frequency over the world has assigned two orbital slots(50 Degree east and 123.3 Degree east)  for Nepal since 1984. Now(Oct 6,2016) Nepal Telecommunication Authority(NTA) has published the notice for Expression of Interest(EOI) . In sep 2015 , Nepal Government has invited firms for the feasibility study. For Nepalese Government Information Communication and Technology(ICT) has not been in priority but this effort shows that they are having little bit concerned to uplift the ICT sector by exploring space. Russia was the first country to establish satellite(Sputnik) in space. Nepali Telecom operators and TV companies are paying the large sum of money to other countries due to the lack of own satellite.

Benefits of Having Own Satellite:
  • First of all ,Nepal can save money from being outsourced.
  • Can also be used for real-time weather forecasting .
  • It is not good to use foreign satellite as a security point of view.
  • Earthquakes,Wildfires, floods, and landslides can be monitored remotely.
Hope Nepalese people will have more access to information by having own satellite .
